Shared print offers Canadian libraries a cost-effective, collaborative way to preserve the scholarly record at a time of financial pressure. By reducing duplication, sharing long-term retention responsibilities, and stabilizing access to print materials, it strengthens national research infrastructure while mitigating institutional risk. The model supports equity across institutions of all sizes, enhances the visibility of Canadian scholarship, and provides a practical, future-focused solution that safeguards collections amid shifting digital landscapes. In doing so, shared print demonstrates sector-led leadership and builds a foundation for potential future government engagement.

At North/Nord, we believe that libraries are stronger together. By joining our network, your library becomes part of a national effort to preserve, steward, and provide access to Canada’s collective print heritage. Membership in North/Nord is free of cost, made possible through the generous support of our funders. Together, we are building a sustainable and inclusive model for shared print collaboration across the country.

North/Nord is an officially approved archiving program on OCLC’s Shared Print Registration service, reflecting its commitment to collaboratively preserving and responsibly stewarding print collections across Canada.

If your library is interested in joining the North/Nord program, please download our Participant Agreement and submit it to the Network Coordinator at north-nord_coordinator@coppul.ca.
